Homeless For a Day

Last Saturday, Will and some of the UMYF (youth group of our church) participated in an all day and night "lock out". Each teenager had sponsors donate food for the homeless and learned, on a very small scale, what being homeless for a day might feel like.
They could bring only what would fit in a backpack and a sleeping bag, and that included what they were going to eat. No electronics, cell phones, etc. were allowed. They were given pieces of cardboard and duct tape when they arrived and this is Will's "house" that he built. They slept in the 30 degree weather and went to church the next morning in the same clothes.
Will said he loved that they had a part in collecting food for our church food pantry (where needy people can come for help) ...but of course the best part of the whole experience was that there were 9 "homeless" girls, and only 2 "homeless" guys!

World's First
Toll Ramp

In order to improve the accessibility into our home for a couple of family members, we made the decision to have a ramp built going in from the garage. Of course, this "small" undertaking ended up including moving a door, tearing out existing steps, re-wiring light switches, new sheetrocking and painting....just to mention a few things.
According to the final cost of this project, this must be a beautiful and stunning architectural addition to our home. Opening the bill practically stunned me into paralysis myself.
It is for this reason that we have chosen to make this into a TOLL RAMP. We kindly ask that anyone visiting our home (friends, family, girl scouts, jehovah's witnesses, etc.) please enter and exit this way. It is called the ALL-ACCESS toll ramp because using it will allow you to stroll past the neat-as-a-pin storage room of Terry's, through the lovely well-kept garage, and into the back door with an incredible view of the dirty clothes.
There will be a 50 cent charge for use going up or down (teenagers going in and out should help tremendously, and during holiday get-togethers, we figure we can net almost 8 bucks one-way!) We should have it paid off in about 35 years.
COME ONE AND ALL! COME SOON AND COME OFTEN!!

Big Weekend!

This weekend I will be heading to New Orleans for the National Association of Realtors convention. I have never been able to attend a National convention before because they are usually held somewhere like California so I'm very excited about it. (Although I don't think this qualifies for my predicted "unexpected event" because I knew it all along...HA)
As part of the festivities, I will be priviliged to hear the former President Bush and President Clinton speak, as well as my favorite inspirational writer, John Maxwell....and will attend a Harry Connick, Jr. concert! There will be approximately 600 exhibitors in the convention center to give me free goodies and sample products..... a visit to Emeril's restaurant and a Realtor parade on Bourbon Street will also be on the agenda. I imagine I will need a lot of rest next week!!

My Fortune

My latest fortune cookie said, "An unexpected event will soon make your life more exciting." Since then, the only events have been that Terry went fishing and Will needed more gas money, so I guess I'll keep waiting......
