Homeless For a Day
Last Saturday, Will and some of the UMYF (youth group of our church) participated in an all day and night "lock out". Each teenager had sponsors donate food for the homeless and learned, on a very small scale, what being homeless for a day might feel like.
They could bring only what would fit in a backpack and a sleeping bag, and that included what they were going to eat. No electronics, cell phones, etc. were allowed. They were given pieces of cardboard and duct tape when they arrived and this is Will's "house" that he built. They slept in the 30 degree weather and went to church the next morning in the same clothes.
Will said he loved that they had a part in collecting food for our church food pantry (where needy people can come for help) ...but of course the best part of the whole experience was that there were 9 "homeless" girls, and only 2 "homeless" guys!

Way to go, Will ! As always, I'm very proud of Will and his sense of compassion. We could all use a lesson in that, I think. We don't really know how others live until we walk in their shoes.
My earlier comment never published so I'm trying again.
